League of Legends (LoL) is set to undergo a significant transformation in Season 14 with the introduction of a revamped Champion Mastery system. The update aims to address previous criticisms of the system being too lenient, particularly for one-trick players, by introducing a new leveling mechanism, Marks of Mastery, and additional features.
Champion Mastery Leveling Changes
In the upcoming Season 14, LoL players will witness substantial alterations to the Champion Mastery leveling system. Instead of the previous requirement of accumulating champion points and tokens, players must now earn “Marks of Mastery.” This new mechanic replaces the existing S-grade tokens and introduces a fresh reward track for each champion, resetting every split.
Mastery levels will no longer be capped, allowing players to surpass level 7. However, to advance beyond level 10, players need twice the Marks of Mastery per level, indicating an increased demand for progression.
Maintaining Existing Mastery Levels
Contrary to concerns, Riot assures players that their current Champion Mastery levels will not be reset during the system’s implementation. Those with existing level 7 mastery on their favorite champions can seamlessly continue leveling under the new system. Additionally, players with excess champion score will receive bonus Marks, reflecting their dedication to specific champions.
Introduction of Mastery Crests
With the removal of level caps, Riot introduces an upgrade to the Mastery Crests players receive upon reaching new Champion Mastery levels. New crests for levels 8 and beyond will be added, accompanied by enhancements to existing crests. Players should anticipate changes to their current mastery crests once the new system is live.
Split Mastery System
A novel addition to the Champion Mastery update is the split mastery system. Players can earn Marks of Mastery through a reward track that resets every split, offering a four-milestone progression. By achieving impressive grades with a specific champion, players unlock these milestones. Completing the final milestone unlocks a more challenging repeating bonus milestone and a unique champion’s title for the player throughout the split.
For players who prefer a broader approach, Riot introduces a “Mastery Set” of champions that resets each split. Completing milestones on any champion within the set contributes to shared rewards, including a “super-charged mastery chest.”
