Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

After the success of the FF7 Remake in 2020, gamers are eagerly anticipating the release of Part 2, known as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Here’s a breakdown of everything we currently know about the upcoming installment.

Release Date and Platforms

Square Enix confirmed during the PlayStation State of Play in September 2023 that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be available in stores from February 29, 2024. Initially exclusive to PS5, it will remain so until at least May 29, 2024. The game will be released on PS5 and PC, with no information yet on its availability for Xbox consoles.

Story

Building on the original 1997 release, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth continues the multi-part epic of the FF7 Remake series. While the first part focused on the Midgar section, Rebirth is expected to explore locations such as Kalm and the Forgotten City, as the characters traverse the world to thwart Shinra and Sephiroth. Trailers suggest potential alterations to the narrative, introducing elements that could reshape the familiar storyline.

Trailer Releases

Square Enix unveiled the first trailer during the Summer Game Fest 2022, confirming the early 2024 launch window. Subsequent trailers, premiered during the September 2023 PlayStation State of Play and on January 15, 2024, showcased battle sequences, character appearances, and highlighted the evolving relationship between Cloud and Sephiroth. Notably, the trailers hinted at the possibility of divergent plotlines and characters becoming aware of impending events.

Gameplay

Following the trend set by Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Rebirth is expected to adopt the real-time action RPG style. Departing from Midgar, the game transforms into an open-world adventure, allowing players to freely explore different locations. The four main characters, Cloud, Barret, Tifa, and Aerith, are set to return, each retaining their distinctive abilities. Additional characters, like Red XIII, Cait Sith, Vincent Valentine, Cid Highwind, and Yuffie Kisaragi, will join the party with unique skill sets.

Characters and Party Dynamics

The sequel is likely to feature a less linear structure, providing opportunities for players to swap out characters in different areas. While Cloud and the original party members are expected to maintain their signature abilities, new talents may be introduced. Characters like Red XIII, Cait Sith, Vincent Valentine, Cid Highwind, and Yuffie Kisaragi are anticipated to become fully playable in Part 2, offering diverse gameplay experiences.
