PS5 Pro: Release Date, Price, Design, Specifications, Preorders

PS5 Pro

Sony’s PS5 Pro is set to be a major release in 2024. With significant hardware upgrades and improved game performance, the new device promises to enhance the gaming experience. Here’s a detailed look at its release date, price, design and specs.

PS5 Pro Release Date, Preorders

The PS5 Pro will officially launch on November 7, 2024. Preorders for the console will begin on September 26, 2024. This aligns with earlier leaks that hinted at a Q4 2024 release. There were reports that any games submitted to Platform Certifications & Operations (CertOps) after September 15 would need to support the PS5 Pro.

Pricing

The price is set at $699.99. This price is higher than both the standard PS5 model and the PS5 Slim. For comparison, the regular PlayStation 5 currently sells for $499.99, and the digital version is priced at $449.99. The increased price reflects the added hardware power and features of the new device.

Design of PS5 Pro

The design will be similar to the PS5 Slim model. It will feature three black stripes on each side. Despite having more powerful hardware, the console’s size will remain unchanged. However, it will not include a disc drive. Players can buy the Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, which is also available for the PS5 Digital Edition, if they want to use discs. Like the previous models, the PS5 Pro will have customizable console covers, although these covers will be sold separately.

Hardware and Specifications

The device will come with significant hardware upgrades. It aims to merge high-quality graphics with smooth gameplay. Here’s a breakdown of its major features:

AI-Driven Upscaling

Sony introduces PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven technology that sharpens images by adding more detail.

Advanced Ray Tracing

It will offer more dynamic light reflections and refractions. Ray tracing will operate at twice or even triple the speed of the current PS5.

Upgraded GPU

The device will have a GPU with 67% more Compute Units compared to the PS5 and 28% faster memory. This will result in 45% faster rendering for gameplay.

These improvements mean users no longer have to choose between performance and visual quality. The new device delivers both, offering a smoother and more detailed gaming experience.

Additionally, it will come with a 2TB SSD for storage, a DualSense controller, and a pre-installed game called Astro’s Playroom.

Games and Compatibility

Sony is ensuring that the PS5 Pro does not divide the gaming community. All games released will work across all versions of the PlayStation 5. Games will run and look better on the PS5 Pro due to its enhanced hardware. More than 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 and PS5 games will receive performance boosts. Certain games will be PS5 Pro Enhanced, benefiting from free updates to take advantage of the new hardware.

Here are some games confirmed for PS5 Pro enhancement:

  • Alan Wake 2
  • Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
